Im just thinking out loud here, and was wondering what you guys think about this stock for a 120 gal tank. Im hoping to have it cycled in the next three weeks :hypnotized: and will make sure i get you all some pics to check out.

20 cardinal tetras
1 kissing gourami
2 blue dwarf gouramis /one male one female
1 pelco
1 clown loach
2 angels
8 corys
im really not sure about how much more i can place in there. If they all make it to adulthood i could be looking at around 100'' of fish. (or so i guessed). I also want to put some redtail sharks in there but wasent sure about their temperment. I dont really have any experience witht them.

I agree, kissing gouramis can get aggressive with smaller tank mates.

Clown loaches need groups, and seeing as they reach over a foot in length, I would say 180 gallon minimum in the long run.

RTS are territorial with other bottom dwellers and similarly shaped fish.

Without those you have much more room for the schools...

I knew that most all loaches need groups but assumed that because they were so much larger the clown would be alright. I appreciate the advice. I will loose the clown in this case:shakehead: If not Redtail sharks how about a single columbian shark? I really DO NOT want to leave out pink kissing gourami. I just cant get around that thing, it really looks like its blowing kisses, i love that, and its pink, thats pretty cool right?

the inches really aren't all that important. the concept of 1"/g is pretty inaccurate. It's more a matter of what species you have and what their swimming habits are. I would scrap the kissing gourami and add in more CLs. Yes, 180g would be ideal. However it takes about 15 years for them to reach their 12"+ length. 120g is perfectly reasonable for a small group for a very long time. I don't know anything about angels really, but other than that it all sounds good.

thats a good point ive never seen a clown loach over 6''. I would start factoring in the bio load of the fish but thats why im posting.

well if you really need the kissing gourami thers nothing wrong with trying it in the tank, as long as you have a place for it if things do go "nasty"

Alright so a redraft would look something like this:
1 pelco
2 Blue Dwarf Gouramis, 1 male, 1 female
2 Angels
8 cories
6-8 clown loaches (were talkin small)
20 cardinal tetras

How much more room are we looking at?

dont keep clown loaches with angels. the loaches are too nippy.

also, the angel will eat the cardinals.

6 clown loaches and 1 kissing gourami could work, depending on the kissing gourami. not all kissing gouramis are voracious fish that are extremely aggressive; they are like bettas in that ever fish is different. some tolerate other fish, while other do not.
