Newbie question about refugium

I ended up buying the 100 gal TruVu, ev-180 protein skimmer, wet/dry, Odyssea metal halide 60" setup and oak stand. The tank is a bit dirty but I got a great deal that I couldn't refuse and it's nothing a little elbow grease won't fix. Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to set this thing up ( : I still wan't to setup a refugium but I'm unsure how I can do it with this setup. The tank has been drilled w/ one bulkhead and I'm not sure if I can set up a refugium w/o drilling more holes. Anyone have any ideas?

I have never heard of a tank with only 1 bulkhead.. what could you possibly do with only 1? At least it is an acrylic tank so you can easily drill another hole if needed.

My advice on the Odyssea light, replace the MH ballast ASAP if they haven't been already. Those things are a serious fire hazard and seen several rooms/houses burn down just because of that light. Cheap ebay specials.

If you just Google "odyssea fire" you will see tons of reports on it. The company claims they fixed the problem, but I wouldn't trust them on it because they also were claiming it was user error in the beginning when the fires first started being reported. Any company that immediately passes the blame on an equipment malfunction on the end user without ever investigating it first is not a company I am ever going to trust.

I was thinking the same thing last night tossing and turning in bed wondering if I had made a terrilble mistake purchasing this tank. I really don't know how the guy had it setup. The bulkhead is located toward the right side of the tank (about 2" down from the top) under the filter opening. If I were to drill another hole, where would I need to drill?

If I were to change out the MH ballast (not really sure what this is ) would the fixture be safe to use? After reading up on it, I'm not sure it's really worth the risk.

lolz, i had the same conversation with my friend about Odyssea brand lights. it seems to me that only aquatraders sells them. they are really cheap compare to other brands. correct me if i am wrong, the ballast should be external to the fixture. i might be wrong since i don't have one.
regarding the refugium setup, i think you should google it. look at how it works then you can mod your current wet/dry system.

The ballast thing has me completely confused. I believe the ballast is the large, heavy box that attaches to the actual light fixture, no? It also may be where the bulbs plug into? Is it both?

Ace, apparently the odyssea I have is the later model that has a power cord for each light fixture. Have you heard anyone having issues with these models?

After all the fires it started I don't know anyone in the hobby that would even consider that light anymore. Since the company "claimed" they fixed the problem I have not talked to anyone in the Southern California area reef clubs that would even consider that light so I am not sure if the problem really has been resolved. Like I said, when the company puts the blame on the customer without any research into the problem, then months later finally admit to it but not offer any replacement parts for customers, it is not a company anyone really wants to deal with.

But.. since you didn't know and you bought a used setup, all I can say is be very carefull. Put the light on a GFI outlet, make sure it is grounded, and use it until you can afford to replace it. That is my opinion on that fixture. Chances are, if the light has been used for a while without problems, that it is going to be fine. Just be careful were you put the ballast, like don't put in sitting on carpet or inside the stand where heat can build up.
