Just some shrimp pics...

Nice shrimp, Zig. Love that black substrate! I also would add a black background as mentioned.

FYI, I wouldn't remove any molted carapaces. Even if a corpse has died, I usually leave them in for 24 hours or so. This gives the survivors time to pick off any bits that they want, and it will not foul the water in that short of time.

All of the shrimp that die on my tanks end up as fodder for my crayfish. They can chow down a full grown Macrobrachium dayanum (3") shrimp in about a minute or two.

Good luck with your salwasi (sp) shrimp.

I'm sorry to hear that, they looked like neat little shrimp. Did you keep the pH over 8? I hear that these Sulawesi shrimp need high Ph levels and hard water.

The lake they come from is PH 8.2 average with somewhat soft water...

This combo is working for me so far, but breeding and survival rates are lower than other shrimp I keep... Still learning with these guys.

I add RO to my already high PH water to bring the TDS down while keeping the PH in the low 8s.

my Ph was about 8.4.
unfortunately the kh was off the scale and I was never really able to bring them both into acceptable range. The last survivor made it for quite some time before he simply vanished.. I never found a body, and he was alone in the tank, except for a few small ramshorns. Maybe I'll set up another tank, like a 20L and try again this summer.
