lmao thats only a few of the snails. The shrimp hate them touching them, but there are about 300 more snails in there lol. Luckily many will be going to their new homes in the very near future.

I only had bamboo shrimp for a short time before they died... and mine were kinda pink before death... but one of them died during moulting, the other just turned up dead. I don't know if the pinkness I noticed was death related, I actually think probably that it was from moulting. Shrimp are much brighter after a moult than before. The outer shell is thinner and lets more color through

Bamboo shrimp can change color as they age. It is normal for them to be brown, tan, maroon, and lighter red. It's a good idea to have a power head pushing water inside the tank. The current helps them to gather food more quickly.

I'm currently down to one bamboo shrimp. He's getting old, close to two years that I've had him, and I don't know how much longer he'll last. At first, my bamboo shrimp tend to have light color, likely due to stress of capture and handling. They usually darken and either take on a darker brown, or red color.

two years is a good long time for a standard dwarf shrimp, right? Especially wild-caught

Not sure what color mine is these days he hangs out in the filter of my Eclipse(I guess it makes sense since he is a filter shrimp). Every week I do a water change and rinse out the filter and dump him back in the main aquarium and every week he climbs back into the filter. I thought about putting a sponge over the entrance but I guess if he likes it there what's the harm?

Bamboo shrimp are not a 'dwarf shrimp' species. Usually, when people say dwarf shrimp, they're referring to Neocaridina or Caridina species. Bamboo shrimp are of the Atyopsis genus, and not closely related at all. FYI, the 'dwarf' in dwarf shrimp does not really apply to the overall size of a shrimp. It was first used to describe the size/length of the chela (claws), in relationship to the size of the body of the shrimp.

I've had filter feeding shrimp climb into a HOB filter too. They're tricky guys. It's really not that good of an idea to let that continue. If it were to die in there, say just after you cleaned the filter, it could be rotting for a few weeks, before you found it. I was able to create a small plastic screen, that allowed water to flow, unhampered, and block the shrimp from entering. You may want to try that, or you could just lower the water level a bit.
