dr, I went to the lfs today and they had an Eastern Water Dragon, pretty much as per your pic, but the light coloured head tone wasn't as evident. It was about 50% tail and roughly 14" overall...$155 AUS. Pysignathus lesueurii lesueurii.

dr, the quail sound cool. Great that you and your Dad can share interests. I'm after some Japanese quail (Coturnix) to breed for meat. I've got the chickens, and the Murray Cod (MacCullochella peelii peelii) will start to come on line in twelve months. I think I'll bring some trout or other cool water species into the system too. And a herbivour to lessen the number of feeder species I need to grow, especially in Winter.
