humane snail disposal

Hi all


I need some ideas for disposing of snails, i have been reading the threads and I see that a lot of people squish them, Can't bring myself to do it. I did not mind a few but all of a sudden I have been seeing tons of little grayish white ones and would like to pull some of them out by hand. But what to do with them?

Put a cup of water in the freezer and when a film of ice forms on the top, poke your finger through then put the snails in.

Or just leave them as is. Most snails will not eat plants, but they will keep your tank algae-free.
In my experience, the population may swell suddenly, but as long as you're not overfeeding, the population will eventually die back, and then stabilize.
Once I had an outbreak of Malaysian trumpet snails--it seemed like there were hundreds in my husband's 10 gallon. But then the population scaled back to what the tank could reasonably support, and now we consider them good things instead of bad things--they clean algae and keep the gravel aerated.

LOL I would love to, but until that happens I will see if they die back on their own. if not into the ice water they go. thanks to all who helped.

I must say, I do think there are more humane ways to take care of them besides cold water. They may not die as soon as they go in.
What type are they?
Over population of snails can indicate that you are feeding too much... You're obviously feeding enough to keep all of the snails happy, healthy and breeding.
