Moving a tank?

Iwouldn't move it with any water in it. You were right the first time--empty it then refill it iwth the same water. 29g of water makes a heck of a waterfall!

Yeah but if you drain it to just a couple of inches, it's not longer 29g worth of waterfall. I'm of the opinion that its less stressful on the fish to be moved this way than to be netted, but into bucket, renetted, put into tank.

And as was said above, water contains next to none of the bacteria, it's almost all in the filter, with some in the gravel.

i just moved my wifes 29 gal. from one side of room to the other side yesterday. i left about 10 gal of water in the tank with the fish and everything else in it. it was a little heavy but 30-40 ft. isnt that far to go.

Same here, if its under 30gal, I drain all but a few inches and carry it to its new location, and keep about half the old water, so the fish essentially get a nice waterchange.

It wasn't meant to come across as a negative comment. I was trying to be helpful in my first post and that was the reply. I spent alot of time in the newb forum here before I even posted. Again, I was trying to be helpful. It is rather difficult to convey the exact meaning of a statement with only text. I apologize for any misinterpretation of my post. I did not mean any ill-will.

I would never "carry" a glass tank with water in it of any amount, or wet substrate. All that results is twisting of the tank and uneven pressure points. While the seals may not break and cause leakage now, you will stress them and possiby have issues down the road.

I also use the super sliders for large tanks on stands. The 7" ones enable me to move the 6 ft 125 with water in it across thick berber carpeting.
