Help needed from Comp Geeks

I appreciate the help guys. The router is up and running and I'm setting the kids comps up now onto the network.

. . . . .

And for your computers you would need to make sure all of them have N wireless cards because the router can only be on on one standard for example you have your N router but your computers have G wireless cards the router goes to G mode and gives you G speeds not N. This will happen if there is even one G wireless in the network I believe.

. . . . . . ..

Not entirely true. Most new routers are auto-sensing. By means of broadcast and response, speed and protocol is negotiated for each connection. What is correct it that you cannot achieve a speed greater than the network hardware can achieve. You can have an N router and a G card and they will work together at G speed. If your friend has a N card, he will see N speeds.

A switch is a managed hub. Standard hubs split the connection equally among all hosts with each host getting an equal share of the bandwidth. A Switch (or managed switch) is used on a private network such as what you have in your house. Each host gets the full speed. The more hosts the slower the overall connection, if all are accessing at the same time and load (difficult to do). You do not use a router unless you are connecting different networks together. Although they are called routers, unless you are doing port forwarding, network bridging, IP forwarding, (et. al.) you are using your router as a (managed hub) switch.

Running WPA2 Personal

Having trouble getting the wireless adapter to acquire the IP though

Trying to watch SB and commercials isn't helping it get done quicker
