Can you dye sand?

there is died sand that you can get at the pet store.. but I wouldnt reccomend it-- most of the good sand is naturally that color

It's all natural in the middle but it is not natural in color. You can get black sand as I pointed out above. It is not dyed, it is volcanic. There are black sand beaches in Hawaii, I know, I've been there! It is black.

thats why you can go into a store and get almost every color or any color you want, because its all natural, read the back of the bag next time

Tahitian Moon sand is garbage anyways i would never buy anything that wasent flourite

The colorized sand is marketed to herp and FW. Flourite is for planted tanks.

You do realize that you posted in the MARINE section right? I've never seen a SW tank with anything other than natural sand, BB, or CC.

Why is this thread still going? I think it was answered very clearly, no not ever use dyed sand is a saltwater tank. You can buy white/black/pink sand that is natural for a sw tank if you want. Those are your options. Don't try and "go cheap" in the sw hobby. If you can't afford real (aragonite) sand.. more than likely you can't afford other vital pieces of equipment as well.

Ok everyone... Let's try to stay on track with the original discussion... dye for sand to be used in a saltwater tank. If there's anything more to be shared, that's perfectly fine, but let's remember there are freshwater products that are not suitable for saltwater use and vice versa.

Considering the sensitivity of marine microfauna to any number of contaminants, I would agree that it would not be wise to use any sort of dye on sand or anything else intended for a saltwater tank.
