How to get rid of this algae!

I have a problem with this stringy algae that grows off the very top plants closest to the light. I do not think that it is hair algae but i could be wrong.

water changes:

once a week taking out 6 gallons

ferts every two weeks

I do not use di or osmosis water

It seems that i can control it because it takes a whole week to grow and if i take out anything that i see it seems to have a hard time growing.

If there is a little piece of it in there it just starts growing from that.

Do you think this is a problem or should i just keep it maintained by taking it out as i a doing.

Hmmmm.... Could be a number of things, maybe an imbalance.

What kind and how much fertilizer are you using?

Are you heavily planted?

What is your lighting wattage?

What is your photo period?

How big of a tank are you maintaining?

Are you using CO2?

What is your bio load?

Do you buffer your water with anything to increase or decrease the Ph?

And lastly, what are your Phosphate, KH and Ph readings?

Reduce light.

The answer to nearly all algae problems is to reduce light.





But nobody ever wants to hear that.

Lighting is usually the problem but can we get more info...

tank size, stock, lighting (type and time), ferts dosing, etc.

2 otos

lighting 12-13 hours a day

ferts 2 mil of flourish composite

tank 29gal

55 watt compact

DIY co2

I do not use buffers

PH 6.5-6.6

I can't really say on the phostphates because the ferts add them in every time i use it.

Cut the photo period down to 8-10hrs a day.

Increase the Flourish dosing to 5ml once or twice a week.

Increase water change amount to 15g a week.

12 hours of light is way too much. I agree, cut down to 8-10.

Also, I agree with the increased fert dosing and water change
