So, the other day, on my way home from dropping my daughter off with her grandparents for her winter break this week, I stopped at my favorite fs. I got some more ghost shrimp. I'd seen in their tank that they had some that were berried, so I asked the girl to see how many of those she could scoop out for me. We got three!! Well, today I'm looking over the tank and doing my usual "Where are all the little shrimpies hiding" routine, and discover that one of my Supermodels is berried, now, too! So now I have FOUR girlies carrying little green eggs!! I have them in one of those little Lee's Fry net thingies that hook to the side of the tank and gave them some najas to hide in, so that they can still be in their tank, but be safe from the "evil" weather loach! They are eating a ton! It must cost them a lot of energy to keep those little eggs tucked up there safe!

I'm having obvious problems taking photos of them through the net. I guess I need to rig up something that I can put over my camera lens that'll be water proof so I can take pics from the top.

But yay! Babies!! I can't wait!!

And yes, they do all have the little red bands around their antennae!! True freshwaters, so they should be able to hatch and do their thing!

Congrats. Good to see you did your research

nice! I keep reading that the ghost shrimp that can breed in fw are difficult to find.

Guess I'm lucky!! Actually, I would guess that the ones that are more brackish, if I've gotten any when I get my shrimp, are probably the ones that keep disappearing before they ever get a chance to reproduce.

Make that FIVE!!! I was cleaning the tank today and found ANOTHER berried ghosty!! OY!!

:lol2:

Shrimpies everywhere!!!

Could they be the "snowball" white variety of neocardina rather than "ghosts"?

Snowballs are REALLY white, from what I understand, and their eggs are, too, which is where the name comes from. They also have the flatter back of the neocaridina species, where mine have the classic ghosty hunch back. These are definitely ghosts - the same shrimp as the photos I've been taking and sharing, and their eggs are greenish colored, not white.

I never knew about that flat vs. hunch back! That's a great way to be able to tell the difference. My LFS only occasionally sells shrimp and just labels them "freshwater shrimp", so I never knew if they were ghosts or snowballs. Good luck with the little ones, and that is a great pic!
