I recently switched from two hang-ons to a Fluval canister and I am having trouble with stagnant surface water since I dont have the waterfall effect of the hang-ons to break the surface water. I tried pointing my Koralia powerhead at the surface, but it really only mixes up that one side.

Is there anything someone can suggest to get some more surface disturbance going? This cant be a problem unique to me. Thanks!!

PS: its a 29 gal

Pull up the spray nozzle so it can reach almost above water level. That should create enough surface disturbance

so its ok for the output nozzle is slightly above the water line?

Yeah, should be okay

Fluval makes a surface skimmer if you wanted to go that route. I like surface skimming. Keeps things super clean!
looks nice, minus the fact its one more thing in my tank that I have to attempt to hide and plug in

It hooks to your filter in take. Nothing to plug in. It simply pulls water from the surface in to the filter. Here's a link!

FYI the link is just a random link that I found. I'm not promoting buying from this retailer unless you want to.

Grab another powerhead to get more movement on the other side in addition to the other recommendations. The top of my water looks like it is boiling--all of it.

So i got the surface skimmer and have been using for a couple days now. Seems to be doing the trick on the surface and looks like it is just keeping the water clearer overall.

MY trigger makes a lot of particulate waste with his messy eating habits and that stuff collects on the top, so this was a perfect solution. Thanks again AC!
