Just how long can a fish go w/o eating? :(

Hope the fish starts eating.

On another note.....My husband is reading this....Now he wants me to buy him jarred garlic to dip all of his fishing lures in!!:eek3:

*giggle*

I may try it too, come spring :)

<-----LOVES to fish, especially for Largemouth :)

<------Always releases caught fish :D

Mouthbrooders can go as long as 6 weeks without eating. That doesn't mean all fish can go that long. I would think that even though you don't see her eating, doesn't mean she isn't. Some fish can be shy when in a new environment.

I've been using garlic on my fishing lures for more than 20 years. It isn't a new science.

We tried to clean a fish once, NOT pretty :)

I just like to put them back, less work:lipssealedsmilie:

I wish that were so, but I watch until all the food is gone, & have yet to see her eat :(

Snoopy, thank you for lightening the mood! I know Mokomom really needs a laugh right about now.

I think she looks GREAT. That injury is no laughing matter, but it is healing cleanly, no fungus, nice healthy pink color. She looks FANTASTIC.

Is she a new addition? or was she with you and eating before the injury? She's got a ways to go before not eating is a problem for her. You can see there is still plenty of flesh on her bones. If I had to bet, I would put money on a full recovery.

If you're really desperate to do something in addition to the garlic and the wonderful care you've given her so far, which I think will be more than enough to bring her back to healthy- have you ever considered keeping a grindal worm or daphnia culture? I don't think live food will be necessary to get her eating again, but it will give you something to do besides worry and I bet you love giving all your fish yummy treats.

Thanks so much!
She was only in my tank for ONE night before the injury :(
I still have NO clue what caused it, as I have nothing sharp in there, and none of my other fish have ever been hurt.
It's a mystery to me
I started treating her the day I noticed it, & I agree, it looks great!

Thanks for your kind comments!

Does anyone else in the tank seem reluctant to eat? I don't want to scare you, but could it be an intestinal parasite and not related to the injury at all? Its probably not the case since your other fish are chowing down, but its something to keep an eye on. Especially if the fish came from the pet store. Sometimes a fish that looks real healthy on the outside can end up with an intestinal worm when they're fresh from the LFS. I wouldn't rush out to spend my money on a parasite cure just yet.

Everyone else in my tank are eating like piglets!

I have been watching the tank like a hawk, I'll tell you

The funny thing is, this girl seems otherwise very healthy!
She swims all over the tank, and never hides
I'm just at a loss to why NO interest in eating :(

I have had gouramis take a long time to settle in and start eating.
I was worried about a pearl, until i saw him pooing - although he hadn't been eating the food I gave him, I guess he was grazing something in the tank, and eventually he started eating the prepared food, so don't worry too much. Nice work on the treatment, btw.
