Edison, NJ newbie

Tropiquarium is one of my favorite stores...they usually have a nice selection of plants and fish. I haven't been there since before December though...the holidays and a new tank used up all my extra cash. I'm hoping to make a trip there myself next week when the new tank is finally set up and ready. :grinyes:

nice! i like the store alot. i was a little saddened that they gave up on reptiles and such, but my girl will not allow any lizards.

i just checked on Google. Animals and Things has awful reviews right down to the clothing of the employees, as if that would matter. I did find Aquatic Obsessions in Avanel though. It appears to be right near the local hydroponics store, which i already shop at. Sounds promising. :) I'll have to check both.

Welcome to AC!

Do you know where Animals n' Things is located? Route 1 woodbridge, they have a a decent selection of plants, that are aquatic.
So i finally checked out Animals n Things. I don't ever want to have to in there again. They have an abundance of stuff and tank after tank of fish, but i will not give them my money. First of all, the place REAKS of dog/cat/bird crap. It's filthy! The aquariums were disgustingly corroded and awful looking. Their plants were ALL rotting and smelled of rotted vegetation and dead things. There were many floaters too. They even have those vending machines with live animals in them that you put in a quarter and they get food. AWFUL conditions for every animal in there. There were sooo many dogs too. Online reviews claim they get their stock from puppy mills, etc. One thing they had, which i wish others sold, was an excess of various rocks for cave building.

Also went to Aquatic Obsessions. VERY nice store and very well stocked with supplies and such. The fish they had looked gorgeous and healthy as can be. Prices were average, but nothing to shout about. I'll probably stop in to pick something up occasionally. It's about 1-2 lights from the hydroponic store, so it's worth the trip for me.

Petsmart and Petco are decent here. Nothing to yell about at all. Staff knows nothing about anything, so buyer beware i suppose.

I wish i could find a review section on here. i'd have posted this there.

And thanks for all the welcomes from everyone. :thm:

Hi John
I want to hear more about the hot suuce....
Remember ALL stores want to make money, thus selling plants that are not TRUE aquatic plants is part of the plan. I would dump it. Find a local store that is neat and clean and stick with them. Big box stores IMHO is not the way to start out, MA & PA (IF you can find one) is worth the extra money.
