Well, awhile back, I was complaining about my spixis not laying, but breeding up a storm. I moved them to their own tank (with two cherry shrimp) and I got an egg clutch shortly after. The clutch started to develop, but then I noticed the shrimp hanging on them and the eggs started to disappear way before they were fully developed. I hadn't seen any other clutches. Well, in the past 2-3 weeks or so, I've noticed that my frogbit and my duckweed started dwindling, very, very quickly. I assumed that my adults had gotten a taste and decided that they liked it better than my food, until I saw glop of eggs drop from some of the plants. The "glop" was half hatched, the other half were still making their way out. I took a very close look in my tank, and the huge bloom of pond snails weren't all pond snails, but a good mix of spixis as well. :D I went from complaining about them not reproducing to wondering if I should find a small loach that is easy to care for that doesn't need a big tank, but that will eat snails, lol.
 
Pics, hun? I always wanted spixis but no money to buy and ship overseas.:( Ah well...One day, I'll get them. One can never lose too much hope.:D
 
HA! You tease me with the canas, so it's only right that I get to tease with spixis! I don't have pics yet, I haven't even made an attempt at getting shots of them yet, lol. They're tiny, but voracious little monsters. I'll have to make an attempt at some point, but they'll probably be too small to show up.
 
adult spixis will also munch on spixi eggs =/ Glad your spixis are multiplying, though! They will keep going, and going, and going, and going...and going, and going.

Can you say...assassin snails?! :lipssealedsmilie:

I get a high hatch rate too, but the survival rate of the young is not as high in my experience as bridgesii. I would love some more at some piont since we are in the same state. I lost my only female recently.
 
Agreed on the survival rate, I even find pea-size empty shells in the sand. I suspect the pleco's and MTS are too much competition for the spixi's. However, they never die out completely, even though there are only a few adults at any given time.
 
idk, given how many eggs they lay, I find it kind of a relief that their survival rate is on the low side. If even half of them made it to adulthood, I wouldn't have any water left in my tank, it'd just be displaced by all the snails >.>
 
Jinkz, I'll let you know once they're a little larger than pea size then. :)
And, pictures didn't work out, lol. They're definately too small. I can get lots of pics of the adults sexin' it up though...
