Lighting/Setup for a smaller RCS tank?

Hello,

I am looking to set up my first RCS tank (probably 10-16 gallon range), and I was wondering what lighting people use? From reading online here, it looks as though most folks are using Java Moss, as well as some type of small foreground plant. The default lighting that seems to come with these more basic, smaller tank kits doesn't sound like it would be enough.

So, just curious what others are doing?


So far, my plans are:

• 10-16 gallon or so
• Hydro Sponge #3
• Flourite Black Sand
• Java Moss
• Another type of foreground plant
• Few pieces of smallish driftwood, maybe a cave or two

Other suggestions? This is going to go in my office at home, so that is why I am keeping the tank on the smaller side.

I use a compact fluorescent tube in a utility light fitting (the sort with the yellow plastic cage over it), clipped to the shelf above the tank.

I guess I'm going to hell.

But my fontinalis moss balls look healthy

I use 2 15w screw in fluorescent bulbs over my 10g & can grow many plants. Now there's lots of ambulia, some small crypts, a red lily, a small sword & some blyxa japonica.

Walmart has a Clip-on work light for $7 they also sell GE Spiral CF Daylight Bulbs 6500K for a few bucks.

I don't think the Hydro #3 will fit in at 10G tank, only the Hydro #1

Oh, OK. Thanks for the heads-up on the Hdro #3. I had only seen it online. I'll have to see if I can't find one locally before getting it.
