What water conditioner do you use?

I've been using Tetra's Aquasafe with no problems (to my knowledge). Anyone else using it?
Yeah used it before. Kind of a meh not good not bad

Pops,
I use Prime.. mostly as a cost saving issue(economical).. 1 cap full does a 55

Why Prime ? Is it the reputation of this product or the cost that keeps you using these products?

What do you like specifically about Prime?

Prime, its more economical over nov-aqua+, plus its useful for ammonia/nitrite poisoning.

I have used Amquel, Tetra's Aquasafe, API's tap water conditioner, and stress coat. Am I the only one who can't actually locate prime??? None of my LFS carry it nor does Walmart. First time I heard of it was on here. I'd like to try it at some point. A lot of the chemicals I have were given to me and were in date so I used them, the ones that were not I tossed because I just don't trust our water nor outdated chemicals. When those ran out, I purchased API's from my LFS and it seems to be alright, doesn't take much to treat my 30's. I have another bottle of something else it's grey but don't recall the brand name off the top of my head...it only takes a couple of drops to treat my 10 gallons. I have tap water conditioner all over the apartment, I guess because I have tanks in every room. And I also have a space in my kitchen (under the sink) dedicated to all my fish supplies because I don't have a nice fish tank stand/cabinet with space.

I had an interesting conversation with my LFS guy about these water conditioners and he said from a chemistry standpoint you're really better off letting some water stand and off gas itself. The point he was trying to make is that you can't REMOVE one chemical by adding another. I understood what he was trying to say, but not being a chemist wasn't sure what the point was in regards to the health of your fish and tank chemistry. If anyone knows I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

He is correct to a point. If your municipal water company just uses Chlorine, it will gas off, but most use chloramine (ammonia + chlorine), and it wont gas off. When we use dechlorinator, we are technically combining the chlorine with other another molecule to make it harmless.

Thanks all for your feedback, we are also fans of Prime. We are currently working with a company to develop our own Water Conditioner to help offset the huge cost of doing constant water changes . Most of our fry tanks receive two 80% WC's daily.

We are burning through 20L Prime Containers like it was spring water. We use 500-600 ml of prime during each water change. two to three X's a week = 1500-1800 ml per week. :swear:

I was just curious to see what everyone else was using thought maybe someone else found a more economical way to go.

We do try to recycle our water but that is a whole other story (working on a massive Nitrate reactor.) :lipssealedsmilie:

Thank you all!!!
