I find it weird that I have a snail in my tank. The only thing I added was plants but that was over a month ago, and I saw no evidence of snails up to this point. Right now, this guy is only like 2mm in size.

Does anyone know what kind of snail this is? Sorry about the blurry picture. :D

I was going to introduce ramshorn snails in my tank so this is no biggie but I am wondering what I have here.

Also, it takes more than 1 snail to breed, correct?

It's easy to miss eggs and snails are unbelievably tiny when they hatch.

Sorry, can't help you there. Hopefully our resident Snail Goddess will chime in.

I believe that depends on the species. Some need a male and a female; some are hermaphroditic, but still need two snails; some are hermaphroditic and can self-fertilize.

that LOOKS like a ramshorn, ? BUT your pic is blurry and it is hard to tell , IS this a side shot of this snail ?? that spiral is what makes me think its a ramshorn, but make sure you look up ramshorns & colubian ramshorns, if its the later, you may or may NOT want it . :) do a search for pics . you will find one fast that looks like yours. does it have a foot , it looks like it doesent, it looks like the body ocmes out and sucks on the glass, that of a ramshorn , but please do you picture research and make sure, some snails eat plants :) HTH ~

It's a small species of ramshorn. I've got them, but they seem to grow slowly, and I've never seen them get larger than 1/4".

Looks like the baby rams that I have - and they do seem to grow very slowly which is probably why it's taken so long to see it. Ramshorns do need 2 to reproduce, and my experience has been that they like to reproduce!

Thanks everyone for the confirmation. I'll look up on the pictures on the web to further confirm that it is in fact the more desirable kind of ramshorn and not the nasty one.

I may have only 1 in the tank so that pretty much means they won't multiply in this tank.... :D
