Found a lava rock at school today..

should be fine...

just a tip-- when in doubt about a rock.. drop a bit of vinegar on it and it if bubbles and fizzez its BAD

if not its GOOD

also... make sure to boil it before introducing it to the tank

I have heard of red lava rock leaching iron into the water column. If you get an algea bloom in a few months try removing the rock. (If it is red that is.)

Sounds good for sword growing ;) (the plant)

Well, I don't have any lava rocks around here. But I've got tons of Texas Holey Stone. I use them as lawn decorations.

i have lots of lava rocks in both my aquariums i have jave fern and jave moss and anubias growing on them i like them

This may sound dumb but how did a lava rock get to AZ ?i found some rocks here in MI that looked like lava rocks i did the vinegar test and they sounded like rice crispys found out later it was slag from a foundry

To be honest, I really dont know. I go to ASU, and on the campus they have this landscaping portion that has nothing but a ton of rocks. It caught my eye because it was really porous and holey.. so I scooped it up and noticed that yeah, its a lava rock. Guna try that vinegar test today though.

I washed it off with our pressure washer :D only because some of the dirt was hard to get off.. the pressure washer took care of that though. Lol:headbang2:
