Protect the polar bears from the oil dudes!

As of right this min yes under the Co2 rules coal is on it's way out as a source of engrey it is being replaced by oil and natural gas to make electricity. Gasoline was and is a waste product the reason it ended up as the fuel of choice was it is cheap to make it is not the best fuel for the job

Yep, we 'forgien' people have trouble with spelling.

But then again, some of us think that that the world is one inter-connected (and vulnerable) system; and so voting rights in the USA are not the only relevant factor in who has a stake in the question.

When a redneck can spot spelling mistakes it is pretty bad...... I never said mine was any better..... but at least I knew where penquins live.:evil_lol:

I know the g and the q look alike, but... wait, I guess that makes me a redneck?

Was wondering who would catch it..... When you google it with a q you still get 132,000 hits....:)

Looks to me like a couple of TYLENOL® would solve that bears problem.....

Anything that involves oil or coal involves pollution and posses environmental hazards/risks, so why even bother when we have the sun giving us free clean energy for all our eternity?:)

So we should just live as we did in the 1800s till we figure out how to harness the suns energy efficiently?

No one is saying no to alternative power sources.

We just want to lessen the need of importing oil when we have our own to use until alternative power kicks in.

the environment itself poses environmental hazards/risks. ;)

Right.. because "wind" is an effective way to power a car lol

solar same thing--- what if I wanna go somewhere in the dark?

I agree with alternate means of fuel-- but in the meantime we need the oil... and wind sure as hell isnt the solution

90% of that oil is used in cars... electricity has nothing to do with it

So what if you want to drive in the dark...that's what batteries are for. PV is just a method of harnessing the energy. The second step is energy storage.

Also, the amount of oil that goes to producing gasoline is closer to 45% in the US..across all fuel distillate types, about 2/3 of the oil we import is used for transportation (gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel) (link). Residual fuel oil burned in power generation is only about 4% of total usage.

As far as activism goes...armchair activism (online petitions, facebook groups, etc) is a waste of time IMHO. I'm much more excited about the 11kW array of PV panels we are installing on the barn roof, which should cover at least 50% of our annual electricity usage. Next steps are a solar hot water unit and active solar heating, and hopefully an electric car to utilize all that energy . Net metering in CT basically allows us to Make power like crazy during hte day when no one is using it and send it out to the grid, then pull power from the grid at night when we are not making any but using a lot. The goal is a net-zero amount, which means I can still effectively charge an electric vehicle for free overnight when we aren't making any power from the PV.

Ok, got a little off-topic there, but please...if you're going to debate a subject, use actual facts instead of made-up numbers and scenarios.
