So I woke up this morning and found a single molly fry swimming around the tank. I did not know one of my mollys was pregnant and I am assuming the other fish ate any other fry. Quite a surprise for a newbie's first fish tank. However, the really upsetting thing is that my 2 otos have completely disappeared! I picked them up a week ago and they have been doing great and really eating up any algae in the tank. But now I cannot find them anywhere, they have literally vanished. Could this be due to the molly's birthing? Could one or both of the mollys or one of my gold barbs or serpae tetras have completely consumed bot otos? This is really confusing. Thanks in advance for the help!

Probably hideing somewhere.

Behind the filter?

no..that's the weird thing....I have scoured every inch of the tank and I really cant see them anywhere....I am hoping you guys are right, but I dont think I missed anywhere...very odd....

more you look, the harder they hide. if they were dead and half eaten, there would be remains

Seems like that was the case...1 of em has just shown himself, so I am assuming the other is fine too...WOW...I thought I had searched every inch of that tank....they have been really active the past week, so I did not really think they would completely go out of sight.....sorry for the newbie freak out and thanks for the positive help!

I guess that was my problem...I searched every inch of the tank...I should have searched every centimeter......boy can they hide.....

You'll get used to it. The small size and ability to stay still makes them look inanimate at times.

They were just playing an April Fools joke on you, that's all! ;)

My otos hide well, too.
