everthing u know or experience with amano shrimps?

LOL.

Scientific name: Caridina Japonica

Common names: Amano shrimp and Algae eating shrimp.

Amano shrimp grow to around 2" long, and are the best shrimp for algae eating. They will eat nearly all types of algae, even hair algae which most fish and inverts dont eat.
However, their diet should not only consist of algae, and should be suplemented with foods such as algae wafers, shrimp or crab pellets, and will eat the occasional bit of live food if you put it into the tank e.g. for the fish if there are any.
I have found that due to their small size, it is easier to break an algae tablet or wafer into quarters and then added to the tank. In one of my tanks I only have four of them, and so I only drop in four quarters, this is easy and reduces squabbling over food.

They are very interactive with their own species and other species of shrimp, and so should be kept in largish groups, which is easy as they create very little bioload. They follow each other around a lot of the time, and it is great to see. They may occasionaly fight over the best spots to sit or food, but no harm should occur.

The general stocking rule is 10 adults per 1 gallon. Although this is just a general rule, as in a 500 gallon tank, it would be possible to keep more than the suggested amount.

I love these shrimp and would definately reccomend them.

Good luck if you are ggoing to get them or have them!!

I had 14 of them for 8 years. I never tried to hatch the eggs as saltwater was not an option for me. Mine were huge and I do not know what age they can get to but mine were at least that old. They scavenge for anything and they do well with Discus and red cherry shrimp. They were also fine with rose line "sharks" , male betta, gold nugget pleco, sterbai cories, and cardinal tetras. Ill post a pic of the tank they were in.

mine never ate hair algae that I could see, but it would be nice if I got some that would, or at least something that would eat the stuff out of control in my tank.

nerite snails might eat the hair algae, but I'm not sure. Some people have reported luck with cherry barbs when it comes to eating hair algae.
