List some fish that are happy living solo

I've found them to be much happier and active when kept in groups, but seem to do just fine when kept by them selves

+1 on this. My poly has perked up quite a bit since I added a friend...they cuddle :hearts: bloody poly cuddles with a gourami...

Betta is all the comes to mind at the moment. Maybe dragon goby or type of goby...I have been them as loner fish and appear to be "happy and healthy"

what size tank?

Me personally, I had in mind smaller tanks (30 or below). But some people here have mentioned oscars and other large cichlids, so I guess let's list fish for any tank size.

I think the criteria should include how a certain fish lives in the wild. You know, a fish that is highly territorial and really doesn't interact with other fish in nature (other than maybe to eat them or mate with them) would be, I think, ideal for a specimen-only tank--especially, say, a biotope that recreates the fish's natural habitat.

Golden wonder killifish. Pretty fish, but doesn't play nicely with smaller fish. ;)

idk! maybe siamese fighting fish?

does a crayfish count? Might not be the friendliest aquatic creature lol.

Lungfish can be kept solo very happily, but again not the friendliest

Yeah, it occurred to me after I posted this question that most smaller, peaceful fish seek safety in numbers--they're schoolers.
And most fish that can live on their own are usually big and nasty :)
