I need plants that will trive at 86 degrees and with low to mid light lvl's. I can always add more lights But I cant reduce the tank temp. I want something that will root into the planting gravel that I have in the tank. I have a few that are doing OK but I want something that has a better chance of doing well! SO - you guys got any info for me?

What do you think might work? Thanks, Arkangel77

Aponogeton crispus (Ruffled sword plant)
Bacopa monnieri (bacopa baby tears)
Pogostemon helferi (Downoi, Little star)

I took a look at my book, and those are the only three that could thrive at a maximum temp of 86 degrees with medium to low light. There might be others, but not sure. Java moss does ok but not in the substrate.

How come you can't reduce the tank temp? Is it because of having lights or jus the temperature of the room. You might wanan get a chiller if it gets any higher than 86.

Its a discus tank and I like to keep it at 86. The fish seem to like it and do better at that temp. Thank you for the info - I will look into thoes right now.

My discus tank is full of all varieties of crypts...red, different shades of green, burgundy tall ones, short ones, different leaf textures. I recently put a new rare crypt in not knowing if it would tolerate the high temps and it bloomed for me in less than a month! I also have a bit of java fern and I just tried putting some of my taiwan moss in and it's finally adjusted to the high temp and is starting to grow. Other plants that have been in there in the past and have grown beautifully are willow leaf hygro, water wisteria, red tiger lotus and anubias.

I got red tiger lotus and anubias in there now and they are doing well! Thank you for the info - what temp do you run your tanks at?

was just a question - looking for advice.

ive had bad experience growing java moss in temperatures above 80. it always dies on me.

Try some red cabomba. grows nice and thick with high temps.

I run the tank at 84-86F.

i dont get it, ive grown tons of plants in 86 degree water

debaric there are a ton of plants that will not grow in 86F water. Better to ask which ones will than to waste money and time on plants that won't.:)
