Anyone have experience with Rummynose or Galaxy Rasbora?

Go fish yourself.
I am considering getting a school of one or the other. I already have 4 angels so I thought getting something too small (for instance the galaxy rasbora) might get eaten up.

On the other hand, I hear that rummynose are extremely sensitive.

Your opinions?

I have experience with both. The galaxy rasboras would be too small in my opinion to be with the angels....would only be a matter of time before they became snacks.

You shouldn't be afraid of the rummynose. They are not extremely sensitive. As long as the stock you buy is healthy, a bit of a slow acclimation to the new tank and as long as you keep your water parameters within normal range for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, with regular water changes, the rummies should be fine.

It is true that their noses will be bright red when all is well with the water in the tank and they are reported to not have red noses if the water quality is deteriorating so if you haven't been paying proper attention to the water, they'll let you know by being pale. I never saw them display any sensitivity to my water and mine are in with my discus where nitrates tend to run a little on the higher side.

They are easy to feed and peaceful!

I've kept both as well and could not agree more.

I have both. I agree that the galaxy rasboras would be too small to be with the angels.

I got my rummynoses last week and love them so far! They school fairly tightly, which is part of the reason I like them so much. Mine have bright red noses right now. I've not had any die yet--hoping none do!

Interesting, thanks for your responses. I will steer clear from the galaxy rasbora then - they would end up being a much too expensive snack for my angels!

Any recommendations for other tightly schooling fish compatible with angels?

I'm also looking at Boraras Maculatus (dwarf rasbora) but maybe they also stay too small for angels.

I have a school of rummynoses in a 50gal tank, together with angelfish. They go about their own business while the angels tend to their own.

Many types of tetra will work with angels, but they are larger bodied and need groupings. IMHO, you're already pretty well stocked.

have had angels ain community with smaller and a bit larger one and when spawing they will kill most,.. i had them kill 3 female bettas, and kill and eat neons and cherry barbs and etc, theat they grew up with from dime size so sooner or later they will kill/eat, anything they can get ahold of,..

I upgraded my 46g to a 90g.

:thm: Cool! That changes ALOT! lol

Check out Columbian, Diamond, Bleeding Hearts, Lemons, Congos, etc. You'll have room for a decent school in a 90.

*cough, cough* Sig change time... ;)
