So i have 1/4" fry in a 20 gallon right now, would I be fine to put my holding female in with them? She is about 2.5-3"... Is it fine to pull her out to avoid being stressed by the other fish???? Or will she abort the holding when I net her???

you have to net her but never pull her out of the water by keeping the net in a bowl filled with the tank water. there is still a chance that the stress will make her spit but she may at least take them back in the bowl. whatever you do though dont pull her out of the water or she will spit.

think she'll eat my other fry??? I think they're her last spawn... maybe...?

its a possibility i guess. im not really sure on that. if it is her previous spawn she might not but like i said im not that sure. i just know about moving holding females. ive never had any experience with that species either so id hate to give you false info on the fry eating.

She may abort and eat the 1/4 inch fry if she senses a danger to the brood she is holding. The 1/4 inch fry may eat the new fry if she does manage to hold. I hate to say it, but to keep both broods, you may need another fry tank, as soon as possible.

Well, I might just have to ask my grandma to get a tank to raise the old ones.. or move the girl friends hamster into the 20 (that doesn't hold water) & use his 10 gallon for the fish.... but then i'd need a new bubbler, airstone, & filter... AHHH :headshake2:

Actually I think i'll just get a divider... that should be fine right???

About how long can/should I wait before I move the holding female, she just started yesterday..??

If she isn't being picked on in the main tank, I'd say leave her in there for a week to 10 days. With this time period, she should have viable fry if she does spit when you net her. If she is being picked on, you need to move her sooner than that, as soon as possible. It will be a risk to the fry in her mouth, but her safety needs to be a priority.

Good luck!

i guess that a divider would work. what size tank is it again???

a 20 gallon, yeah, i think she's doing fine, she has had a large appetite up until now, & looks good, I have plenty of hiding places, & the Neyererie are pretty tough, I'll leave her in for a week or so....
Pretty happy, I've read a lot of literature on these and it all says they're pretty picky breeders...

Thanks a bunch for the advice/guidance!!

I only have one other female in the main tank.... she is about as big, if not bigger than the male, should she be fine having "all" his attention while the holding one is out???
