I am attaching some pics of some supposedly parrot fish juveniles. I have owned fish for a long time and I thought I was getting a bargain when I saw parrot fish juvies at Wal-Mart. Heck I didn't know what color parrot fish juvies should be, I figured they turned red with age..Like I said I have owned fish for ages, but never knew anything about parrots except they should be red in color. So imagine to my surprise when I got home and started to search the internet on these wal-mart parrot fish......I don't even think they are parrot fish. Can anyone help me determine what they are? I have a community tank and I really don't want pink convicts in it, if that indeed are what these wal-mart specials are.

They look alot like Pink Convicts to me.IMO a Parrot cichlid in a community tank is questionable too,but i guess it could work.

Thanks everyone, they are pretty peaceful right now. They don't seem to bother any of the other fish right now. They are in a 55 gallon with angels, kribensis, red-tailed sharks, raphael cat, a pleco, couple of albino cats, algaoe eaters and a few barbs. I am going to call the manager of wal-mart and inform him about this. I will keep an eye on them and if they get pesty with my other fish, I will trade them off. Again thanks to all who responded.

That's a parrot/convict hybrid (aka jellybean) you can tell by its compressed body, while a pure convict's body is longer and less deformed looking.

That's what I think, too. I have heard (don't know if it's true) that they're made by breeding a female blood parrot with a male convict. It has to go that way because male blood parrots are sterile. I don't know if the makers have to inject hormones like normal blood parrots but it doesn't look like they use zinc to produce deformities. I have also heard (again unconfirmed) that they can be aggressive like normal convicts.

Hey guys. I breed these guys. Yes, as far as i know, they are the convict blood parrot hybrids. They are nice little fish but EXTREMELY aggressive just like convicts. They have teeth as well. The males will get about 3 inches and the females smaller. They are convicts, in a little package! But i love them!!! :fish: <><
