Reverse Osmosis system help

Well the main reason, honestly, is because I have advanced plants that need very soft water.

My tapwater

pH 7.6
kH 10 degrees
gH 26 degrees

These are ideal hardness parameters for acidic-loving aquatic plants. ADA ASII helps soften the water to these parameters. But within a year it will stop softening the water. So you get the idea why I'm thinking about a hefty RO/DI system ;)

pH 6.5
kH 2-3 degrees
gH 5-6 degrees

what kind of plants do you have?

i use r/o as i breed apistos its quite nice to have in that situation i dont use they di systems as i dont want all of the hardness gone just a good amount.

but the amount of waste water produced is alot for ever one gallon of ro there is 3 gallons waste.

be sure when you get your's to run it for one hour down the drain the semi permial membrane ten to be in a pack with prservatives.

If you just want the RO for plants, cut your water change add water with RO from Wallyworld or your local grocer. $.30 / G. A system for your home will run $75 plus.

Lol I have a 60 gallon tank. Buy 30 gallon of RO water for W/C? rofl darn! Plus 15 gallons for my three 10 gallons that also need soft water zoiks 45 Gallons from the grocery. No way! I rather get a RO system :)

He meant dilute your tap with DI water from walmart, maybe a 50/50 mix.

I have the same rock-water that you do and just dilute it 50/50 with RO water, to do the large water changes that EI requires. But I have my own unit that I purchased from Air, Water and Ice, since I use about 40-50 gallons of RO water, and lugging even half of that volume a week isnt fun.

Plus on the SCAPE boards, Air,water and Ice is a sponser and has a good deal on free shipping atm too: http://www.socalaquascapers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1798
