Sterbai Fry!

That's awesome! I'm working on getting a breeding group myself is it complicated to do?

Not sure if you want to know if it's complicated to get a breeding group or complicated to spawn them and raise the fry?

What kind of water conditions did your adults spawn in, and what conditions are the babies being raised in? I'm curious to know if they need soft or neutral pH levels. My water is on the hard side.

It's tap water with dechlor, ph 7.6-7.9, I have moderately hard water and I have the temp in the parents tank set at 80, the tank where I put the eggs is 82-84F. Parents are fed frozen bloodworms several times a week, live white worms at least once a week, and a variety of pellets. Typical cories, they will eat anything!

I love these sterbai and the babies are simply darling!

Thanks for sharing!!!

Is it complicated to spawn them and raise fry. To get a breeding group I would think you increase your chances by numbers.

Thanks for the congratz everybody. I put a group of 19 together and let them grow out in my 75G pleco tank. When I spotted them spawning for the first time, I took 11 out and set them up in their own tank to spawn. I have a good mix of males and females. I'm not getting big spawns yet, they are still young. And the first several times they spawn, the eggs are not fertile. I feed them well and do 75% water changes every week. They seem to spawn easy for me. Seems every week I find some eggs, just not a whole lot of fertile ones yet. This is my first time raising sterbai fry. I've raised the easy albino cories in the past and the sterbai seem as easy as the albinos for me. The fry are growing very rapidly. So at this point, it's going pretty good.

More fry pics, couple different sizes of fry....

Thanks for the info Deb! Nice to know that spawning sterbai isn't completely impossible as I once assumed. These cory babies are darling! I just a couple more Q's if you can humor me! Is the growout tank for them 12 inches high or lower? What are you feeding the babies now, and is it different from what they were initially fed?

Not a problem to answer questions Sara!! The growout tank is a standard 10G. The parents are in a standard 20G Babies are fed microworms 2X day and Hikari first bites 3X day from the start. The nice thing about the microworms is they live in the tank for about 48 hours. So food is available for them while I'm at work all day! I have one of those jars of BBS, but it's only good for 6 weeks once opened so I'll start using that in a couple more days. I just had another nice little hatch 2 days ago, so the more babies there are to eat it, the better. This is what I did for my albino fry and I had no losses and they grew really well. I'm seeing real good growth on them!
