Hap. Nyererei Female HOLDING!!!

How about posting pictures of the parents.

Barbara is the expert with holding female Vics!

I will post some pictures soon, when my girl friend brings over her camera cord, I decided to just put a divider in my big tank so I didn't have to bother the holding female at all....

P.S. - My blue peacock male & OB peacock were being really flirty for a couple days & now the OB is holding, so the OB & the Nyerie are in their maternity home.. Should they be fine together....?

OH! & grandma did get a nice tank, I gave her 6 small convicts to help with the cycling so when I start to over flow my 5 tanks.... addiction... she'll take on a group for me.... Only problem is, she now loves the convicts...

If your second female is being abused, you need to pull her as well. I had a small group of a fairly aggressive species, and when one female held, they all went into isolation tanks. Separate ones. If it doesn't seem like your other female is having problems, I'd leave her in the main tank.

She seems to be doing fine, he acts as if he has no one to impress with the other one gone... he's a lot more colorful with the other one in there.... Thanks barbara

I'm glad it's working out for you. I haven't kept any Pundamilia species, as yet, but my Neochromis omnicaeruleus are just plain mean, so I tend to be protective of my holding females. I have a good group now...3 males and 7 females, but at one point I had 3 and 3. That was scary when one held.

She's still holding, would it be safe (after 18 days) to assume the fry have developed & could transport her by net to a different tank?

My problem is that my eight 1/2" fry might be able to slip past the divider to the other side, where I want to put the young nyererie....

Could I just put the 1/2" fry into a spare 2 gallon tank for a while until the small fry can fend for them selves (unless that wouldn't work?)

I have to move into a different appartment, so I want to get the fish settled in once I move the tanks....

P.S.- My buddy just gave me a 6" pirahna which is taking up a tank, he might need to go to an LFS.... I haven't even gotten to see him eat ene thing yet though...

At 18 days I would assume you should have free swimming fry, but it is not definite. I would take the risk to move the female if you want to save the fry.

I would move the 1/2 inch fry out before putting the mother in.

Well, I've never tried mixing generations, just fish the same or close to the same size.... could my 1/2" fry mix with my main community tank?? I know I've seen really young africans in with others, but I don't put anything past those little buggers....

Tank 1 below- The cichlids are in decending order from largest to smallest. Starting With the 4" Peacock..... I think I'll have to open a tank for the 1/2" ers. Dont want'em to get eaten....

IMO, you answered your question correctly. I would do that; if you can, open a tank for the 1/2 inch fry. Recently, I tried to add a nearly 1/2" fry in my mbuna main tank and it got a bite from a 2 3/4" inches male yellow lab that tried to swallow it. That was scary! I thought the little guy (a rusty) was not going to make it, but it is OK now in the original 5gal tank with one of its siblings.
