ph controller for co2 system..necesary?

Was wondering how many of you use an automatic ph controller in conjunction with your co2 injection system. Would a timer to shut off at night work as well? I'm always concerned about relying upon additional electronics which can add another possible failure to a system. Thoughts appreciated.

I just use a timer to turn on and off during the day. I distrust pH controllers because the pH/KH/CO2 relationship isn't gospel in real life environments.

My question stems from an email I placed to Milwaukee regarding their regulator. They "strongly" suggested buying the ph controller because "if ph drops below 5.5 it will kill all biological life in the tank", I'm sure this is a combination of sales pitch and scare tactic, so I wanted to check with real-life users.

i cannot think of any members on the forum who use PH controllers. IMHO, it is a waste of money, purchase a drop checker, bubble counter (you can make your own) and an inexpensive timer and you will be all set with your co2 needs.

edit: of course they highly suggest you buy their $$200 ph controller!!!

Unless your starting pH was below 6.5, you'd have suffocated them with the CO2 long before reaching that point.
