I would give the fish a salt bath 3 times a day. Salt does indeed kill harmful bacteria. If you or someone in your family had a serious flesh wound, would you 'not treat it' just keep it clean. That's absurd. Any serious wound is going to get infected under the best circumstances if it goes untreated.
1 tablespoon per 3 liters of water should do it. Grind aquarium safe salt in your blender until it's powdered and then dissolve in hot water. Premix in a bathing tub (not your tank) soak the fish for 1 to 5 minutes three times a day.

Removing such a large shark from the tank 3 times a day would put tremendous stress on both the owner and the fish itself, which could cause the recovery to go backwards...infection or not.
Closed environments like aquariums are much different than what we live in. We are exposed to many more pathogens on a daily basis than a fish would inside a tank, especially one receiving large and frequent water changes. I see no reason to change the course of treatment.
:iagree: Re the salt. Not needed really. Check out post #190 on page 19 to see the photographs that chronicle the progression of healing this guy has gone through with clean water, daily big water changes, pure clean water.
His immune system rocks! This guy has made incredible progress.
I wish Danomind would give us an update though. We all want to know how the little big guy is doing now.

Even if we don't get an update from here, we should all remember this thread for the amazing trunaround seen in this fighter from the brink of death. Incredible healing was achieved by concentrating on clean water, minimizing stress, and providing a healthy diet. In this situation, no additional treatments were warranted.
