This thing is the freakin bomb!
Fathers day and dads b'day come within 30 days of eachother so he ususally gets one bundled present. this year, because i was sick and tired of him b'ing and complaining about having 3 remotes just to turn on the TV i did some reasearch and picked him up a Harmony One.

This guy has an activity based touch screen. it says "watch tv" so you press that button it turns on your tv, cable box, and our surround sound. press"watch dvd" and it turns off your cable box and on your dvd player etc. it is super cool, easy to program, and loads of fun. my mom even figured out how to use it in like 2 minutes.

It took about 10 minutes to program on my comptuer and a few minutes to load the program to the remote. Programming was super easy it only asked about 2 dozen questions about how I watch tv, what in the room controls audio, cable, video etc.

if you mess up something big time and nothing works? it has a 'help' button that walks you through the setup screens to make sure everything is setup properly. it asks "is your tv on? Yes, No" If it is not and you press no it turns on your tv....and so on.

LOL - We got my dad something like this (as a prank) for Christmas. It was HUGE. The buttons are like 1" x 1". But hey, it is universal and it does control his TV, Sattelite and DVD player. He actually does use it. It's a foot long by about 8" wide. :)

Maybe we should have got him something like this. But he always whines that he can't find the remote... so, this one can't be lost! haha

We have had the Harmony 880 for a while now, its a great remote. Before we picked one up we had DVD remote, blu-ray remote, TV remote, surround sound remote and satellite remote. All now controlled by the Harmony remote :)

The other great thing about them is no need to replace the batteries since they come with their own charger. Keep your eyes on Amazon, they usually have some refurb ones for sale that are about half the price of a new one.

i got it shipped to my door for $183. a fair price IMO for a $250 remote

That is not bad at all, the refurb 880's and 890's can be had on there for $80 if you keep your eyes on them.

At first it sounds like a lot of money for a remote, but they really are so simple to use and extremely handy.
