The Zigman's redneck lightin projikt...

I dont think heat will be an issue since this is a gutterm and is out in the blazing hot sun all day... AND A am using CFL's that tont get near as hot as a regular incandescant bulb, I think all will be fine. But it was a concern, and I am monitoring it daily.

go to walmart and go to the pet section. they have CFL bulbs that are long and tublar instead of round and screwy.

I wasn't worried about the plastic, I was worried that the bulbs themselves might get too hot and pop. I'd think they would be fine, as, mentioned by rocker, they have ones made for aquariums at Wal-Mart. I have those in my five gallon desktop tanks and they work well. But they do get warm. The hoods have holes drilled in them to counter the heat buildup.

so can i get some more information. did you have to do any wiring? if you did can you put a diagram for those who have no electrical skills. thanks and great light.

there are only 2 wires to connect on a light fixture like this. Since it operates on 110 VAC there is a black and a white wire. Connect the black wires together, and the white wires together, then connect each to the plug. It doesnt matter which colors are connected to the pluc so if you use lamp cord or something, there arent any colors.

Later, when I put the other one together, I'll take more detailed pix.

Another one I made today..

Here is another version. I thought the bulbs were too far apart on the first model, and didnt like the shadow in the center of the tank..

I did this...
