What do you guys think about a single angelfish in a 16 gal bowfront tank? 20" long, 18" tall, 9 inches front to back at the shortest spot and 13" in the longest. It would be a heavily planted tank with a small group of corydoras for bottom feeders. I was originally thinking of getting a pair but I'm not sure they would have enough space. So what about just one? Water changes are done every week.
 
definitely not enough space. you need a 29 minimum to keep an angel.
 
I would say no...not enough free swimming space.
 
Long term the answer is NO, but you cold use it to raise one up a standard fin angel fish it could last depending on the size you start off with 6 month to a max of one year if you start with a dime sized angel. other factors are the rate of growth is different for different strains as well as individuals. you would have to commit to upgrading of returning to the LFS when it outgrows the tank.
 
Yeah... I didn't think so. It was just a thought.
So now I'm looking at cichlids. Preferably I'd like something colorful but a lot of those seem to be bigger. What is the largest cichlid (get to 3-5 inches maybe?) that can healthily live in this tank?
 
you could do a couple yellow labs possibly.
 
I'm not sure corys and cichlids are a good fit for each other. As I understand it, corys like their water fairly soft and slightly acidic -- at least my 9 (4 albinos, 4 pandas and 1 peppered) do.

rams are cichlids as are angels
both of these can go with corydora.
are you referring to yellow labs as the cichlid in question?

in this case a 16 is too small for an angel. a single angel and a 20 tall would be the minimum
but if you want some cory's then go for a 29
a single ram would fit in a 16 tho I prefer larger tanks for them
you could also look at apistos in a 16 A. Borelli are small and would fit nicely in a 16

what would they get aggressive towards if it was just a pair? chances are they wouldn't breed anyway.

*shrugs* i dunno. i have one in a 30 and he always seems real placid, even with other cichlids.
