My eartheaters...
Not positive on ID but it doesn't keep me from enjoying them... even though it was labeled as Jurupari at LFS I'm pretty sure I have a satanoperca leucosticta. The other not sure... getting old... couldn't remember what it was labeled. Thought it was geophagus surinamensis - anybody tell me for sure?... I'd appreciate any thoughts. Sorry about pic quality.... I suck at photography...

Wow yes you have the same geos as me...except my balazini, and brasilnellis. Anyways he does look like a satanoperca leucosticta. Yes I think that is a geo. Surinamensis.
Nice geos!!! The 2nd photo is definitely a S. leucosticta. However the other isnt a surinamensis, it is a G. altifrons. You can tell by the small (couple scales) or lack of mid-lateral spot, no facial markings, and spotted caudal (tail) pattern. Also G. surinamensis are very rare in the hobby, sadly most are labeled as surinamensis when in fact they are a different species. Thanks for the info - great read.... He was marked as "surinamensis" when I picked him up in Connecticut last year, but I have always knida wondered. My S. leucosticta was marked as Jurupari.... but it doesn't really matter alot. I didn't by them for a specific species... bought them because I liked them!

Thats great to hear...I love my geos! All the Satanoperca species are Jurupari...

That is the most important thing cuz if you dont enjoy them you are not going to take care of them. Though they were mislabeled the care is all about the same as well.
Yep true... I walked into my lfs today. I see gymnogeophagus Balazini labled as ''Orangehead geos'' for $29.95 a piece at 5'' each....wow that is highly expensive. I am like these geos are fully grown and are not even orangehead geos...wow. Anything for $$$$$$$$$$ these days.
