axolotl and fish?

The biggest problem with axolotls and fish is, from what I've read anyway, that axolotls like water around 65-68F. Obviously this is a no go for tropical fish.

This is an older thread, but I will add my two cents, lol.

Axolotls have very large mouths, and will eat anything that they can get in them. They feed by opening their big mouths and sucking very fast, and yes can eat just about anything, even danios and other fast fish. I know this for fact.

The only fish that go in my axolotl tank are intended as feeders. Guppy fry when very small can be overlooked for some time, but will eventually be caught and eaten. I also keep ghost shrimp in my axolotl tank, and they are caught and eaten, although they sometimes go for weeks without being noticed.

I have kept my axolotl Ondine (RIP) in a tank with fish so he could eat them. Maybe a younger axie would live peacefully with fish that are guppy sized. But once he's big enough, he will eat them and it is fun to watch. I would put a few feeder fish from the LFS in there when I'd go away for a couple of days. He'd usually kill and eat two right away and eventually get the last when he was hungry again.

Fish that are bigger than guppies will most likely nip at his external gills. The guppies might too, but they are still food to the axolotl.

Where I live they only cost $10 - $20 AU! I believed that axolotls are only a stage of the salamander. I have never seen one change though. What does it look like?

Mine turned into tiger salamanders.
Axolotl's are an actual species (Ambystoma mexicanum), not just a stage of tiger salamanders. They are, however, related to them.

Then you, like many others, were duped into purchasing a larval salamander, and NOT an Axolotl. The only reason for an Axie to morph is that water conditions are so bad they can no longer survive in them.

If it turned into a Tiger sal, then it was a Tiger that you bought.
