What makes the Magnum filters good?

I've never had to pump the primer on my 405 more than twice... I almost never have to prime it at all. I've heard many stories of the mag's NOT autopriming, and requiring water to be *poured down the intake tube*. Personally, I'm glad to have the option to prime it manually. BTW, CWO - you say the magnum is the 'stick shift of filters', yet it is the *automatic* feature that is often so touted.

All in all, most everyone likes the filter they have best - that is why they have it.

I don't hate these filters I just think there are much better out there.
In fact I will probably pick up a 250 for quick portable polishing in the future
Portable unlike the 350 Sminc:)
Like I said just another point of view from a former 350 owner.

Someone, somewhere out there makes a hanger for a 350. Just for you, and somewhat for me I searched for easily over an hour yesterday, trying to find one.
I used to own one. I guess I'll have to make my own, if I want another.
It was a simple cage, type of thing.

It was discussed a little in this thread, a while back. http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=196059
So no, its not just my imagination.

The reason for a filter bag is because I would like to use Seachem Matrix and Renew. The Renew would have to get replaced from time to time. I really don't feel like separating it from the Matrix with a pair of tweezers, so that is where the filter bag comes in.

You could put both in the container, in their own bag. Or just put the Matrix in a bag and fill in around it with Renew.
At cleaning time. Pull out the bag, dump the rest. Put the bag back in, fill with Renew.

No offense, but defending a filter by complaining that people shouldnt complain about the noise is just..wow.

Kind of like, people opening the door of a stand, sticking their head inside, and going OMG I can hear my 350 running. Is even wowier.

I guees I'm just rediculously deaf, if all it takes is a little 10" fan running on low. To drown out all that noise. :nilly:

I know how much people prefer all of their quietness.
All you have to do is look around while sitting at a stop light, when its 70* out. And see all the windows up, and people running AC to avoid the noise. :screwy:

But hey, I'll do 80 mph down the hwy in 100* with the windows down, AC on and :headbang2:.

...i am a ebay junkie...

I probably would be too. But I had that good ID theft thing happen to me a few yrs ago.

I just happened to do all the right things that day, to catch it with in a couple of hours.

So, if I do any ebaying. I get with my brother, and use his account. Thats a pain for everyone, so it doesn't happen but once or twice a year.

:( I guess thats why y'all see me refering to drs or big als so much. Its about the best I can do.

You'll have to excuse my absence, I was busy fixing something else I know absolutely nothing about LOL. And it is working now and much quieter, go figure...

ALL kidding aside, there are no great 1-20 year magnums available on ebay right now because I think the value-cat is out of the bag, even the new ones have jumped in price lately $20, but still comparatively an outstanding buy new for $100 vs the comp. So I settled on a $35 Fluval 404 from a buyer with 100% rep and who uses Paypal protection, and look at me I'm still happy see :grinyes:(fluval!)

PS- Notice how the cooling coils and radiator on the AC are configured in a circumference configuration for maximum surface area cooling exposure. You think they would have a stacked cooling coil designed by now Uhh!

I guess I like my magnums the best, because it is the best for the money.

It seems to me the one big selling point for all of those other high dollar canisters, Is how QUIET it is. Not that they're actually any better.
Thats how most of the threads I've read come down to in the end.
The only thing they are better at is being Quiet.
So I guess when I feel the need to stick my head in the stand and be able to hear a pin drop, it'll be time to pay 3 - 4x more for a canister. :bling:

I like it because of the build quality, the degree of personalization afforded, and the ease of maintenance. Also, I don't remember how the magnum was set up, but with the fluval the water is filtered before the pump. I know many filters are not like that (including the marineland (system x) filters) and to me this is important in longevity (the impellar will never see sand, for one).

Nice try but a "hanger" hardly qualifys the 350 as a portable device:) You still have to deal with hoses and that silly clamp that keeps the inlet and outlet together on your tank.
I also would hate to see that thing hanging on a tank LOL I would think most would hang it off to the side as we generally try to keep the back of the tank closer to the wall, not to mention if you happened to walk by and accidentally rub against the can you could twist the motor and have it fall right off hehe.

I also demand complete silence from my tanks, I guess since noise does not bother you and you like to drive 80 mph with the windows open and the AC on that makes you a wild and kooky kinda guy huh? I'd love to hang with you it must be a hoot!
