What to do while exchanging CO2 cylinder?

I don't have a pressurized CO2 system... yet. I'm still researching, and will probably, most probably, have one in place when i get my 75 gallon setup ready. For the time being, i'm using DIY co2 on a 29g, with decent results.

My question is, what do you do about CO2 when you're in the process of exchanging the cylinder. Now, i'm talking logistics. You don't have a tank to hook up to, because it's in your car, or the refill station, etc. Most likely you have to do this "transaction" during business hours, so exchanging while lights are out on your tank is not really feasible. So, do you just suck it up and go for an hour or so without CO2? Would this really hurt anything?

Thanks,
S

You would just go without for that period. One day shouldn't really impact the tank that much. Maybe turn the lights off for that period of time. It would be no different than the day you do a water change. You turn off the filter, and CO2, if you're dosing EI you remove half of the co2 saturated water, and have to start fresh. One day/afternoon isn't going to matter in te big scheme.

The place I exchange my cylinders with, Airgas, opens at 7 or 8am, which is 2-3hours before lights are on, so it gives me plenty of time to get a new cylinder in place. None of my Co2 injected Planted tanks, turn on until 11am, (as of current DST), so that if I sleep in, I can still dose or get some maintenance done before the lights turn on.

But if somehow I dont get up early enough or I dont notice the CO2, I run half my bulbs, keeping the light levels really low.

I keep seeing this acronym, but have yet to decipher it. What's "EI"? I'm sure i'll feel less than brilliant after the answer!:D

When I am out of CO2 and exchanging Cylinders, I turn off the lights for those days W/O CO2.
