I'm considering moving one of my bettas into one of my community tanks. The tank I was considering is my 20 gallon tank. The fish in that tank are 7 pygmy cory cats, 2 ember tetras, and a sparkling gourami. The only fish in that tank that I'm concerned about having issues with the betta is the sparkling gourami.

Has anybody ever kept a betta and a sparkling gourami together? Was it successful?

Thanks!

I would imagine the betta would pick on-if not kill-the sparkling gourami as they are pretty similar in appearance

I know the general rule is to not mix gouramis and bettas, but I've also heard that sparkling gouramis are the most peaceful gouramis. When I did a search, I find mix results. I guess I won't try it, unless others have some postive experience here.

What about bettas and Bolivian rams?

I wouldn't do a Betta with a Bolivian ram. I have the option right now of doing German Blue Rams with either a Betta or Gourami, and I'm going to go with the Gourami (Dwarf). I think a Betta should be the most aggresive thing in any tank.

If you do this, let me know how it goes.

I can't find much info on bettas with rams. My two rams stay at the bottom of the tank, the betta I'm considering moving stays (mostly) towards the top. I don't know if I want to try it.

Perhaps I'll have to figure out another way to reduce the number of betta tanks I have. :lipssealedsmilie: MTS sucks.

I have a nice red male betta in my big community and also have a few sparkling gouramis in that tank. They have been doing fine together for over a year but they are not crowded together in a 10 gallon either. Putting them together in close quarters might have had a very different result.

dont put gouramis and bettas together. sparkling gouramis are peaceful, but its not the gouramis that are going to be causing the trouble; its the betta.

i would strongly advise against putting a dwarf gourami and betta together as well. nothing but aggression will come of it.

Thanks. I think this is why some people say different things. I guess if the betta is not a very aggressive one, it can work. I don't really know what my boys' personalities are really like when it comes to other fish, and I don't want to put my gourami at risk.
