I wonder if you noticed the names of the people who ordered that 'custom' arrangement:
That said I have been to 2 weddings where each table had a glass bowl, that was VERY small, with a fish or 2 in it. Generally feeder gold fish, which I think still is pretty bad. Most of those fish were likely dead in a week. I saw several little kids taking them home, very excited about the new pet. I gave them some advice, but still I bet they died quickly.

Not to say that it is a good idea, but at least it doesn't seem to me that they send out ALL their flower arrangements this way.

I have always wanted something like that, but have always hum hawed over the whole fish thing. My auntie at her wedding came up with a great idea!
She had bred bettas for a while and had some favorites. Up until the actual reception, the betta were in a tank. There were 4/5 tables with about 2 gallon bowls on each table. The fish were only put on the table in the bowls for an hour tops and then they were taken back home by my aunt. I think it was a great idea, as the fish had a definite home after, they werent subjected to 5 hours in a bowl, they had no plants and everyone just loved it!

That actually doesn't sound that bad to me. I'm still not a huge fan of fish as short term decorations, but at least these are taken care of. I would just make sure everyone knew how they were doing it, so they didn't think "Thats a great idea", but then go about it the wrong way.

Here we have a custom order for Mr.and Mrs Fish's New Years party. We have designed both large and small cylindrical infusion arrangements. The vases were filled with green orchids then water added to the top, we placed small Paradise fish into the small arrangements. The tops were designed with a mixture of flowers, white roses, green orchids, eucalyptus and seasonal greenery. The finishing touches green and glass balls, silver accent leaves. The large arrangement had 4 blue female betta fish. They were the hit of the party! Please feel free to order your party flowers custom to fit your occasion. Large cylindrical infusion $475 FYI After the party all of the fish were safely transfered into their own fish bowls, and live happily ever after.

Personally I see nothing wrong with what the florist did! With one exception bowls are not cool.

Though bowls are not a good thing for fish, better than being flushed.

This is just a PERSONAL opinion, no need to get so work up. If they make sure that the fish find a good home afterward then it's good for them still i just don't like the idea. Not only with fish but things like dressing up dogs and cats, some people think them cute, and a great idea. I on the other hand think it's really unapprovable.

Second: My idea is that most people who get them have no intention of keeping them. It's just like a fish store selling fish randomly to a 5 year-old kids. Some might find a good home, most will not. Just my concern for fish in general.
