could I temporarily put my betta in this tank?

I have a betta in a 5 gallon right now... that's his home and that's where he shall stay permanently - HOWEVER, we are in the process of switching out bedrooms in my house around, so I am wondering while we are breaking down and moving everything if he could be placed in my 55 gallon temporarily until we decide where to put his tank?

The inhabitants of the 55 right now are 5 balloon mollies (one big mom, 4 small babies), 5 neon tetra, 2 albino cories, 2 julii cories.

I have heard the tetras can be nippy with the betta... what do you all think?

It would probably be for a week or so...

You could try it, but keep a good eye on the tank to watch for aggression/nipping issues. It's touch and go with bettas... they may be aggressive, the tetras may nip fins... or it could be just fine. If you do try it, just make sure and have a back-up plan in place.

Just a thought... 5 gallons is not that big, can't you set up the tank in a different place for a few days during the move?

Yeah I was considering it, only problem is we don't know where anything is going... like at all, and we have a lot of large pieces we are moving and switching, so I thought it would just be easier to set him in the 55 (if compatible of course), rather than set his tank and have to move it 50 times...

I also have a breeder box that could hang in the 55 if it REALLY was that bad, but I'd prefer to not keep him in that but for like an hour...

There could be some aggression / fin nipping from the neon tetras since the school is so small. But I think the betta fish will be fine in there temporarily. With such a big tank, why do you only have 5 neon tetras?

I don't think it will be that big of a deal. I have a male betta in my 55 and I have a school of 20 neons and they get along fine.

haha, it just got cycled about a week ago and they were all the fish from my 10 gallon, don't worry - I'll be bumping the neon numbers up to 15 or 20 total, and I'll be bumping the cories up to 6 of each species that I currently have... also planning on adding glo fish, cherry barbs, and pearl gouramis (after the bettas out of course, lol)

I think it'd be safe to try, but keep an eye on it.
