Petco "Going Blue"

I would not be suprised either...although a simple label like "for fish only" should get them out of lawsuits brought forth by any idiot stupid enough to take medications for fish...

That may stop them from losing lawsuits from idiots, but it won't stop the idiots from filing, and therein lies the cost to the company. Besides, there have been some pretty stupid judgments against companies in the last few years. Seems individuals have no responsibility for their choices. No wonder that Petco thinks we're all too stupid to use antibiotics.

i completely agree about the liabilities and you make a good point somervell. however, i do not agree with those who have chose to post their agreements on the website. this for the simple reason that the article is bold faced lying to the consumers about their intent and motivation for this move. their intent is to save their arses and only do what's statistically profitable. their motivation is they think enough of us (not us here, but us as in humans) are idiots to cause a liability. if they posted that in their article i would have to agree. :evil_lol:

It's not just Petco, and unfortunately all too often we are.

Agreed, Zaffy. I just don't believe that the way to protect people from a possible misuse to to stop selling a product. I believe that it is educating people to use a product correctly. I also do not believe that it is a company's responsibility to protect us from bad choices by removing the choices, nor do I believe that is the motive on the part of any company that follows this trend.

oh well, maybe in lieu of having a empty space where all the meds were they can have an altar so you can pray.. maybe that'll fix the problem

Thanks for the votes of confidence Pappy and Lexi!

I say just put 'em behind the counter. Keep 'em below the register or something like that.

That way they are available to people- but they have to ask someone and speak to a live person rather than buy them all willy-nilly.

Seems a decent compromise to me.

Sounds like a reasonable plan. Maybe if you had to sign some kind of waiver before buying them, it would reduce liability for the company. I was in my competing Big Box store yesterday, and none of the management had heard of this policy. Maybe this "trend" won't catch on.
