Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap, yet reliable and preferably quiet powerhead. Preferably something that would be available easily at a chain store so it's easy to find.

I want to spend the minimum necessary, this is for a 5gallon temporary snail hatchery, I'm going to use it for a few months hatching out a few batches of Spixi eggs and then it probably won't get used for a long time- so I don't want to spend much.

I'll probably make a small temporary DIY filter to attach to the power head. I do have temperature issues so my only major requirement (besides being cheap) is that it doesn't run excessively hot.

Any suggestions?

The Azoos are about as cheap as I've seen for powerheads. You could also take a look at the Elite Mini internal filter.

OK thank you- I'll take that list down to Petsmart with me this weekend and see what they have.

You mention Azoo's being cheap- they're not overly noisy or heat producing are they?

Try Petco, they have a petco brand poweheads really cheeeeeeeaaaapppp!
