PETA Billboard Outrage: Fat Women = Beached Whales

The point people are making is that PETA is making a blanket statement about a certain body type and wrongfully attributing that body type to meat consumption.

the majority of people here are backing up their anti-PETA sentiments with blanket statements....so if we are bothered with the blanket statement that is made, why are we making blanket statements about it?

and wether or not a blanket statement is appropriate check out the CDC website
  • Percent of noninstitutionalized adults age 20 years and over who are overweight or obese: 66%
  • Percent of noninstitutionalized adults age 20 years and over who are obese: 32%

  • Percent of adolescents age 12-19 years who are overweight: 17%
  • Percent of children age 6-11 years who are overweight: 19%

4-10% of the population is vegetarian (source i chose the reuters article because it is more concise....you can search for the full one if you want). you can contrive your own blanket statement from these statistics

OK my turn on the soapbox. . .

I eat meat,
I kill bambi and eat it because I eat meat
I kill fish and eat them too, because I eat non-meats as well.
I kill ears of corn - I pull them off their stalks and boil them alive. I have someone root out potatoes from their snuggly little dirt beds and then I eat them as well.
I run through a lettuce field hollering "Off with their heads" so I can eat a salad.

The fact of the matter is I eat and need sustenance. Whether that comes from any special group is a moot point. To suggest "Save the Whales and lose the blubber" is hypocrisy at it's finest since PETA won't support any action to prevent whaling or the clubbing of seals. Are you aware your friendly PETA organization has a kill rate of 90% of "rescued" animals whereas the ASPCA has an 80% placement rate? Better not tell PETA that a tree in the rain forest died so they could make their little nuisance flyers, which in turn caused the death of seedlings, forest animals, etc.

Someone needs to draw a line in the sand (yes, that means disturbing a pebble) and put reality on one side and PETA and foolishness on the other.
I don't shoot whales and use them to make money from while they are an endangered species.
I don't sell the skin from the animals I kill (anyone want a possum coat?)

I would hate to see PeTA suceed and change people who used to be happy to be a diverse mixed group who ficussed on what they had in common, into two intolerant camps who focus on where they choose to be different. What is next, the salt- versus freshwater wars?

Yes, but what does this have anything to do with what PETA's doing, and what does it have to do with directly eating meat or fish?

I think there are many more factors as to why so many americans are fat, some being; no excercise, no activities, and eating disgusting fried foods.

Deep frying a mars bar is just as bad as deep frying a burger.

Moderation in any diet can't be bad. PETA is saying that anything that came from an animal is cruel for the animal and should be abolished under any circumstance whatsoever.

A Picture of Obesity Around the World

by J. Foster
The Wellington Grey blog has created an interesting poster displaying world obesity. There's been so much interest that the author has even made the picture into a poster that can be purchased.

You can't say that the less obese people are this way cause the country eats less meat.

there are many other factors involved on why people are obese than eating meat. What the meat (or any other food for that matter) is cooked in has a lot to do with it as well

the weight charts have their own issues.

I was told by one doctor that at 5'4" 185 lbs i was obese..
however, a specialist in sports medicine measured bone mass and muscle mass and body fat I was at 8%

and considered an athletic build. (22 years power lifting and bodybuilding an exercise regime that included hours of cardio work.)

Oh by the way,

I'm pretty sure that PETA's founder, Ingrid Newkirk , the same woman that says that NOT 1 ANIMAL should be used for medical research, is living comfortably, treating her diabetes with medication that was created by ANIMAL TESTING ON DOGS!

She should practise what she preaches
i wonder if that insulin she injects into herself is from cows.

Yeah, the BMI chart was designed 150 years ago by a mathematician who had no working knowledge of medicine or health. That's a whole different can of worms.

The only people who take peta seriously are the uninformed and peta themselves...

How's that for a blanket statement?
