With my briggs shell? I have had her a few months now and her shell looks so odd. The white part was like that when I got her. She actually had a large crack around the edge of the shell when I got her. Now the rest that's grown in looks different. I have hard water with high Ph, I feed calcium foods and tums here and there. She acts normal and eats normal. Just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong. When i took these pictures they came out really dark. She's a blue brigg and is a little larger than a quarter in diameter.

Someone will know better than me, but it looks like the old shell growth is decalcified, and the new growth is healthier, if I'm reading those photos right.

that is the oddest looking shell discrepency i have ever seen! The new growth looks fantastic so I would not be concerned but that snail must have been in some crazy water conditions, it almost looks like it was sandblasted!

lol I just wanted to make sure it was healthy growth and not some weird shell disease. I have to admit it looks very odd, non of my other snails have had the same distinction. When I got her she was in a filthy cup pulled very tightly into her shell. I had to keep her in a breeder for a week so she could get food and get her strength back.

She was a walmart snail so who knows about the painting lol.
Well, there was a big box store alleged by a member of applesnail.net to have sold painted snails. How did she know? She simply scraped the color and the white paint went off revealing a bright gold shell. That was it which is why I asked if it is painted since it looked a lot like one too. Paint would have worn off over time.

Edit: I had to recheck the spire instead of the mantle. Doesn't look painted to me. Still :omg: on its white shell.

I think the snail looks fine. Shell forms differently under different water conditions. Yours is a pretty extreme case but I thinks its fine :)

This may be a really dumb question, but why do you call it a blue brig, since it's not blue? I mean, don't the blue ones actually look blue?
