Are there any other options for substrate heating other than the coil rope stuff? I was thinking of like the smaller stick to the under side of the tank heat mats for reptiles/hermit crabs does any one see a problem with this or have any other options in mind? Any advice or ideas would be awesome! Thanks every one in advance!

Why do you want to heat your substrate? The cable type substrate heaters have been proven to be junk in a planted tank.

I was just reading about it being beneficial recently and thought about giving it a shot is all.

Yup...Same here, and that all I've heard about those.

That and the fact that they are not thermostatically controlled...I wouldn't use one.
