Hi Friends,

Hope all is well and great !

Just wanted to request you for some kind guidance and help regarding my Tank's hood. Kindly have a look at the below pic that I have made of my tank's hood inside view.

Kindly note that the Red Rectangle represents the Wooden Strip Border (not really sure what is called) which is on the inside, which sits on the the Tank's Rim.

1. Now this Wooden Strip frame is about 0.5" thickness only, which is almost as same as my Glass Thickness 12mm. Just wanted to request you to kindly guide me if I should get this wood strip frame removed by a professional carpenter and make a new one of a little thicker (may be about an inch thick) wooden strips ?

I thought that this would make sure that the hood is sitting equally on all the glass sides, thus eliminating any risk of improper weight distribution. Please guide me regarding this as I'm really confused. I want to get it all right this time.

Also can I give some kind of a padding on something on thsi wooden strip so that it is not very hard on the glass edges ?

2. The Hood is about 30 to 40 Kgs - is this ok or is it too heavy for my tank ? Can the tank safely bear so much weight on its rim ?

3. Do I need to coat this wooden strip / frame with any paint or varnish, to protect it from moisture etc ?

4. Now since the Braces are all re-done, I will have just 2 openings in the braces for my filter pipes on extreme corners. Just wanted to request you to kindly guide me on how do I make the appropriate cuts on the backside corners of the hood to allow the filter pipes - Please guide me on this as I'm really-really confused about this. Kindly refer to the folowing Pic -

I would leave it as it is, the glass will hold the weight.

You could stick a thin plastic trim around the top of the tank to protect the glass.

It will be fine.

I would, just make sure what you use is marine safe.
