The Red Seas are only like $9 on sites like petmountain. I have them on both of my 2.5g tanks and the flow isn't bad at all. (They're also adjustable flow, and super quiet. I hate those whisper micro filters.)

i get them on drs foster and smith, where they're called azoo palm filters but they're the same thing really, i have six currently. to reduce the flow iv put a few drops of hot glue on the outake so the water has to go over and around it, and you can turn down the flow which makes it pretty calm
