True dropsey is a symptom but in our disease thread, it tells of many reasons fish get it. I added that to help her narrow down where she is looking as there are quite a few diseases listed.

That is sad about your other fish, but don't be too hard on yourself. Accidents happen. Everyone has their "really bad fish days". My first betta I had in college in one of those really small tanks, less than 1/2 gallon probably. no lid. he ended up jumping out during the night and I woke up to this dried up poor little fish on my desk. I wish I'd known then all the fish care info that I know now, but live and learn, right?
Like I was told, and most full fledged PhD's will attest to, "It doesn't matter WHEN you learn, it only matters that you DO learn!" (however, obviously, that comes from someone who has spent over a decade in university! He, the guy who told me that, became one of my best friends, he remains so till this very day! LOL)

Well, again, it seems, I am the bearer of bad news; if it is the disease I spoke of, the mortality rate is HIGH, unless caught at a very early stage.
In my best intentioned, and humble opinion, Levamisole hydrochloride is your best chance ... any decent fish store should have it. It might be "behind the counter", it is so rarely asked for, sad really. This is an excellent drug.
However, if there are less than excellent fish stores in your area, Flubendazole, or even Fenbendazole can be used. If the situation is so bad, no fish store even carries those meds--try a farm/livestock outlet (you will probably end up with MUCH more than you need there! And, you will have to do research to convert the mg's you will need into just how much of the bolus you will need to add to the aquarium, and arrive at the correct milligrams to treat your aquarium--I mean, do you have a gram scale and a morter and pedestal?)
In the future, it might be wise to hold a bit of fish wormer on hand, just for next time. It is my belief that many don't even know their fish have internal parasites! Most of the times, the parasites are far from fatal.
In the wild, and in the countries where wild fish are exported, probably 80% to 90% of wild fish DO have parasites, they are just not demonstrating outright symptoms.
A few months ago, I renewed my supply of Levamisole hydrochloride off ebay, it was rather cheap. The bottle now resides in a freezer bag in my freezer.
Ya' just never know, ya' just never know ...

But then, if it were the disease I spoke of, the Betta would NOT be OK!

i think my poor blaze has dropsy but I don’t know from what... could be a parasite since he had that thing hanging off of him.. he is doing better than my last post but he is still fat.. I was looking at some of the pictures for dropsy and bloat and they had their scales sticking out everywhere and were fat all over... with my fish it is just near his head by his 2 little fins... I will try to take a picture but my computer is cooperating with my camera 
Tech i am not quite sure if my fish has what you were speaking of.. He did have something coming off of him but not in the anal area.. but who knows i may be wrong i'm new to this.. another reason why i think it is not what you spoke of because once the thing hanging off of him was removed he started to do better.. swimming more and he actually swam away when i tried to move him from one tank to another..
Frankly, I was hoping it was NOT the disease I informed you of, that is GOOD NEWS girl!
When you "removed the thing", did it give the appearance of being a parasite? A worm? Did it leave a hole in the fish? Marks where it was attached? Did you save the thing? Can you examine the "thing" under a magnifying glass? Got a friend with a microscope, perhaps their children do?
All the above could be indications (instructions?) on how to proceed from here ...

my husband took off the thing.. i didnt want to in fear that it would hurt blaze and he would die.. i wouldnt be able to handle that..lol.. as for what it looked like from what i saw is was filled with redish brown gooy stuff.. the hubby kind of ripped at it with the tweezers cuz he didnt want to pull it off and hurt the fish.. when he emptied what ever it was it seemed to have a clear layer around it and then something that kinda looked like a vain in the middle.. we started to pull it off after that and got most of it.. some of it is still there because its to close to the fish and we didnt want to hurt him.. and by the time we got to the pulling point blaze was feeling better and putting up a fight so it was a little hard to get the growth and not him so we stopped.. He is still doing well but is still big the hubby isnt home yet so i still have to wait to get what i need.
